Radiesse, formerly known as Radiance, is the
first calcium hydroxylapatite injectable cohesive implant used for
soft tissue augmentation. Over the last seven years, Radiesse has
proven to be a safe and effective alternative for those patients
wishing to avoid the potential side effects of bovine and solid
implant materials.
Radiesse consists of calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres
suspended in a biocompatible carboxymethylcellulose gel. It is long
lasting and does not require a skin test because it is the same
mineral component found in our bones and teeth.
By supplementing your skin's own depleted collagen
with Radiesse, we can smooth out wrinkles and most scars. Radiesse
can also improve the appearance of deeper frown lines and nasal
furrows. Radiesse is a safe, effective, time-tested, non-surgical
wrinkle treatment that provides immediate results.
What areas respond best to Radiesse treatments?
- Naso-labial folds
- Peri-oral lines
- Lip enhancement
- Depressed scars
- Oral commissures
During the procedure, a small needle is used to
implant the Radiesse™. Topical and/or local anesthetic is
used for pain control during injections. Injections in and around
the lip are particularly painful.
Complications include bruising, nodule formation
(particularly in the lips) and infection.
Radiesse™ injections have been shown to
last for several years. However, individual results may be affected
by age, skin type, lifestyle, and muscle activity. Some patients
may achieve an optimal correction on their first injection. For
other patients, variability in the rate of tissue in-growth following
reabsorption of the gel carrier may require additional injections
to achieve an optimal correction.
